Last week I posted 5 tips on photographing your children, but as I was shooting this week I thought of a few more tips for your next family photo session.
As Valentines Day approaches I did a photo shoot with my daughter and her little cousin. As evidenced by the images below, it is clear that these two were perfect angels the entire shoot. They did exactly everything I asked of them without hesitation and I was able to capture my vision. Yep…..the most perfect children ever.……NOT!!!!!!!!!
As anyone who has attempted to photograph young active children can attest it can take enormous effort and patience. However, time goes so fast and it’s important to capture these precious phases. Here are three more tips:1Provide a prop to make it fun for the kids, and, if possible, use something that reflects the season or holiday. Props can help make your images pop, while telling a little story about the photographs. 2Kids love to sit still, right? WRONG! If kids are full of unbridled energy it’s impossible to get them to sit for longer than a nanosecond. For this shot below, I had the kids run and play hard for 10-15 minutes. Once they ran out of steam I had an easier time getting what I wanted from the photos. Just make sure you have them in the right light once they are burnt out. Remember, indirect sunlight and look for open shade. 3And when all else fails I am not above bribery! Don’t judge 🙂
It’s all fun and games until someones POPS a balloon!
